Vishnu Prabhakar died at the age of 96, on 11 April 2009 after a brief illness in New Delhi. 3 6 7 He was suffering from a heart problem and infection of the urinary tract. His wife, Sushila Prabhakar, had died in 1980. The story, “The Mark of Vishnu”, is one of the remarkable and appreciated short story in Indian English Literature. One of the most important characteristics of modernism apart from the use of irony and satire that Khuswant Singh has used in this particular short story is the rejection of religion.
